Layering by Laura

I wanted to show how you can use the cricut to make a cute layered card.  I used Mickey and Friends cartridge for all the images on the card. Before you start making any cuts, read your manual for that specific cartridge. There is a page in the instruction manual that shows exactly how to make a layered image.  It’s important to have the manual available so you can see which key you need to press.  All of the code keys for the various layers are on the left side of the keypad in grey.

To make the flower border on the bottom of the card.  I used the Icon border, made sure that the shift key was pressed and then used the minnie image button on the white part of the key pad. I pressed cut and 3 flowers were cut.  I cut the flower chain three times for the card.

So for the Minnie base which is black- I used the Shadow: Base Icon.  Now since I used the shadow cut, it meant that I was going to have some black showing around the edges which is what I wanted.  If I wanted the layered pieces to match up exactly against the background, I would have used the minnie1-image and made sure that I used the shift key as well.

Here are the various stages of Minnie Mouse:

To make the shoes, you would press the shoes/ribbon/hat button and the minnie1 image.  To make the bow, you would press the shoes/ribbon/hat button, the shift key and the minnie1 image.

Here is a really large close up of the completed Minnie Mouse.

I think that she came out really cute!

Island Memories by Laura

I’m still working thru all the photos that I took on our trip to visit the Pacific Northwest last summer.  I think I’m almost done scrapbooking the ones that I want to.   This two page layout I used Authentique’s Original collection.  I decided on this layout to make my own denim flowers out of a pair of jeans-my favorite pair that finally wore out.

These flowers are super easy to make.  You just take 5 one inch circles, fold them over in the middle and hot glue.  Use a 1 inch circle of card stock for the center and adhere the petals on to it.  To finish the flower, just hot glue an embellishment of your choice to the center.

I used a lot of the Original collections detail stickers as embellishments and cut out a pocket from one of the papers.  For the title I used these great stitched letters by amy tangerine for American Craft  Thickers that went perfect with the layout.  Since I ended up using a lot of photos and embellishments on this page, it didn’t leave a lot of room for journaling so I just used a little journaling circle that came with the collection.  I will write out what each photo is on a separate piece of card stock and adhere it to the back of the layout.  I could have easily made a hidden journaling tag and put it behind the photo on the left page but I didn’t think about it until it was too late…… maybe next time!

Here is a a photo of the flower made out of paper- I gave these away as a gift to the convention atendees last fall!

Four by Laura

Laura here for a one page sketch that was inspired by Suzanne- our fellow design team member.  I scrap-lifted her idea!   I thought I would give layering a try again since I really liked how my previous layered page turned out and I really liked this one layout that she did for the auction (I won her layout).  I had this fun picture that was take of the four of us while we were visiting my husband’s hometown this past summer.  We were trying to squeeze into the phone booth, we didn’t quite fit!

To make the layout I used the beautiful “Renew” collection by Authentique.  These papers are so beautiful and the colors and patterns are really versatile.

I used a dremmel to distress the edges of the papers, inked the edges to add more texture and then just started layering.  There really was no plan to the layers, I just kept shuffling the different elements around until I liked what I saw.  I did pop dot several of the embellishments to give some depth.  The “Renew” collection comes with some fun embellishements: puzzle pieces, numbers in various shapes, folders, scalloped circles.  I did fussy cut out the flowers and added some pearls to complete the page.

Hope you all are staying safe, dry and hopefully getting a lot of scrapbooking done!

“Dance” by Sam

Whew !!! We had a great Birthday Crop !! If you missed it we will be having more crops so make sure you check out our facebook page and sign up to get email from our website so you don’t miss the next one !!

Now let’s checkout the layout I made for you today !!!

This is a couple of shots of my daughter at her dance recital. She studied at Sheffield’s School of Dance and this was her first recital on her ballet toe shoes.

My background paper and most of my embellishments are from Authentique Paper line but to make it come together you know you have to add a few things from your stash. The idea of layers has really started to get under my skin. I have always admired other peoples work but like most of us I struggle to make my layouts measure up.

This week I wanted to see what I could do so I started with a few colors of card stark and started stacking. Pink, Shimmery Silver and then a cute little photo frame to focus the eye on the picture.

Then before I finished I had added a mini folder and some puzzle pieces that are also part of this awesome line of paper. The Title I anchored to the page with some Washi Tape.

Them some bling to make it all balance. Got to have the triangle to make the eye flow on the paper.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope to see you at Scrapping Frenzy !!

Scrapping Frenzy Supplies: Authentique Paper-Renew, Transform, Crate Paper- Pretty Party- Invitation, Forever in Time- Gem Swirl, Pink Thickers, Authentique Puzzle Pieces, mini folders, petite folders, hinges and tabs

Feature Friday by Sam

Welcome to Feature Friday.

We all use our Cricut machines to cut out diecuts to embellish our layouts and cards but did you know you can draw with your machine? Cricut markers can be purchase in several different color combos. Here are two examples.

If you have these and haven’t taken them out of the package let’s get them out and play !!

I will show you how to draw, then cut the image out to give you a unique look.

To make it easier to see I used my black marker. This set comes with two black and two brown. Ornamental Iron 2 is one of my favorite to use with the markers.

Start by loosening the toggle screw and remove the cutting blade.

Before you put the marker in put a small piece of paper under the blade housing because as you put the marker into place you might accidently mark on your machine. Yep, learned this the hard way !!!

Put paper on the cutting mat and load it into the Cricut.  Save that small piece of paper to use when you take the marker out of the machine.

Now choice the item and the size. I used the letter “P” at 3″.

Set blade speed on fast and the pressure on medium.

Now push “Cut” and watch it draw.

When it finishes DO NOT push- ” Unload Paper”

Push- “Load Paper”

This might sound wrong but now we want to cut the image out. When you push the “load paper” button it goes back to the far corner of the mat and is ready to cut in the exact position as the marker image.

Use your small piece of paper again and remove the marker and put the cutting blade back in the machine.

Push the ” Repeat last” button and then “Cut”

Now you have an image that is inked and cut.

Here is two cuts of the same image. The first one I used the markers and then cut. The second one I just cut it out.

I think it looks like I inked the edges but with this delicate cut it would really be hard to ink with sweetheart inker. I took the two images and used them on cards to give you a better look at the difference.

Now do you see the difference?

You can also use the markers to draw a cute coloring page for kids or grandkids. Just pick an image and draw. This would be great to use on a rainy day like this weekend is going to be.

Whew !! I know this was a long post but I sure hope you hung in there and learned something new about your Cricut. These markers really fun to work with. Enjoy !!!

Sizzlin’ Relaxin’ Chillin’ by Sherry

A new year with brand new layouts…our first design meeting was full of  ideas and exciting opportunities for you to get involved with Scrapping Frenzy…looking forward to seeing you again or meeting you for the first time.

My second post of February is called Sizzlin’ Relazin’ Chillin’ because so far this year the weather has been crazy…I chose to use AUTHENTIQUE “Spring” paper line for this layout.  Spraying  sand to add affect to the bottom of the layout was done first. Since I discovered this product,  I use it all the time for beach pictures, playing in the sand box, or any other layout involving sand…I love the depth and the realistic effect it gives my layouts.

Then I used my Cricut to cut out the beach chair, bucket/shovel, and the sandcastle. You can purchase sparkle paper and rent cartridges for your Cricut at Scrapping Frenzy. I attached these items with sticky thumb adhesive to my layout.

Choosing the pictures for this side of the layout, I cut paper to match the background paper for the 2nd page of my layout to tie the two-page layout together. Using a tag that came with the “Spring” line  paper,  I completed this page by journaling about the pictures.

The 2nd page to my layout this week, I cut the corners with a corner cutter that I have and cut matching paper to write my journaling on. I would love to add a bowl of chips and dip to this layout but have not been able to find one—any suggestion would be appreciated if you know where I could secure one (you would make my layout complete)…

Scrapping Frenzy supplies:  AUTHENTIQUE “Spring” line paper, card stock, sparkle paper, sticky thumb adhesive, Cricut cutouts, Make It Stone Krylon spray Sand, and Zig writer black ink.

Other Supplies:  Title bars and corner round.

Dream come true! by Monica

Good Morning!

Monica here to share a new layout with you featuring a very special someone. Take a look! This is David.  He has made me as happy as a fox in a chicken coop! LOL  I loved this picture of him, and wanted just the right paper to make a layout.  I found it, the Renew collection by Authentique.  This collection has several sheets in it, which is all double sided. Plus, the embellishments that match are too cute.

I started with the paper “Foundation Two”.  Using a fan brush and some acrylic paint, I pulled my paint out to use as a background for my photo.Once my paint was dry I matted my photo. and inked the edges with a black Sweetheart inker. My photo was matted in “Foundation One”, and the flip sided of it is words and their definitions.  I found the word favorite, which fit perfectly with my theme, and cut it out.I added my definition, and my 2 other embellishments to the top of a mini file folder.  These folders are great for journaling! Now it is time for the washi tape.  I used several different ones, and really liked the way they turned out.Next I added a button and some bling.  David and I love to go antiquing.  This button is one from a collection we found on one our outings. He knows I love buttons, and he can find them quicker than I can!Next came my title, which is a mixture of a rub-on, thickers, and my hand writing. My layout is completed!I hope you have enjoyed the post today, and have found something to get you inspired!  Please visit us at Scrapping Frenzy or visit our Facebook page.  We would love to hear from you!

Supplies:  Paper – Authentique, collection – Renew, We R Memory Keepers Sweetheart Inker in black, button, Authentique embellishments and folder, washi tape, bling, craft smart acrylic paint in Dark gray and Light yellow, rub-on, thickers, Zig writer in black, sticky thumb adhesive

Happy Scrapping!

Will you be my Valentine? by Monica

Good Morning,

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, the day of Love!  So I wanted to show you a few simply cards for this very special day!  Take a look. Before we go any further, let me apologize for these pictures, I could not get good lighting for them, inside or outside!  So Sorry……..!

The great thing about these cards are they are all made from one, yes one, sheet of paper.  Beyond The Page – Flourish Dot by TPC Studio.  I love this sheet of paper and even though it is black, it works well for Valentine’s Day.

Card 1

Two pieces of ribbon, a card mat and a butterfly.  Too cute!

Card 2

For this one I used the opposite side of my polka-dots.  I added an embossed heart flower, in white, added a heart embellishment with a bit of tulle, and stamped my sentiment.  Love it!

Card 3

This one is just as simple!  I used my mat, added a piece of ribbon topped with a strip of heart stickers, and a white heart doily.  I use the inside of the doily as a pattern for my pink heart and stamped my sentiment.   Purrrrrfect!  ( I love cats! and Junie my baby girl is helping me with this post!) LOL

These little guys were an afterthought!  I used a shipping tag as a pattern, cut them down to the size I wanted and rounded the corners.  I added my stickers, washi tape, ribbon, and sentiments.  (I traced my heart from a cookie cutter) They are small enough to staple to a treat bag but pretty enough to use as a tag on a beautiful Valentine’s Day surprise.

I hope you enjoyed these little treats today, and that you will have a few of your own tomorrow!  Happy Valentine’s Day!  Kisses!

Supplies:  White card stock,  paper by TPC Studio – Beyond the Page, twine, DMC floss, tulle, ribbon, green washi tape,  white embossing powder, We R Memory Keepers Sweetheart inkers- black and pink, heart and butterfly embellishments, misc wood and acrylic stamps, VersaMark ink pad, StazOn black ink pad, Sticky Thumb adhesive, black Zig writer

Tools:  Heat gun, corner rounder, paper trimmer, scissors

Card size:  5.5 x 4   (finished)  unscored  11 x 8

Mat size:  5.25 x 3.75

Happy Scrapping!

Love card and bow by Laura

It’s good to be back after our break!  I hope you all enjoyed our favorite post in January!  I thought it was fun to see the different designers favorite posts.  Now- it’s February and time for some fun new projects from the design team.  I decided for February since it’s Valentine’s Day to make a card and homemade paperbow that coordinate with each other.

For the card, I used the kraft cardstock as the base for it, and then used the Le’ Romantique Collection by graphic 45 for the background, strips and pinwheels. This was my first time to make completed pinwheels.  I was a little skeptical at first if I could actually make one and not rip the paper which is what has happened in the past to me when I’ve tried to make one.  I think they came out really pretty.  I made them in 3 different sizes, the largest one was the easiest to make.  The small one to me was a little bit harder to manipulate and keep the shape but I decided to use a hot glue gun instead of craft glue and that helped a lot.

So- to make a pinwheel.  Take a  strip of paper  1″ x 12″ and score it every 1/4″.  After you get done scoring it, fold it back and forth on itself,  like we used to do in grade school to make a fan. Cut off the very end of the paper so that the ends will match up better and then glue the ends together.  Here are some photos in the various stages of making the pinwheel.

After the glue dries, you then fold it inward- this takes a little bit of practice if you have never made one before to get the spacing even on it.  Now- glue it down to a 1/2-1″ circle.  I used craft glue on the two larger pinwheels but I think that using a hot glue gun might have been easier even on those.  I had to sit and hold it for quite a while and then put something heavy on top of it (that wouldn’t crush it) overnight until it dried completely.  Once you’ve made the pinwheel you can then decorate the center of it anyway that you want.  On two of them, I put a punched out circle with pearls but on the littlest one, I just put a pearl in the center.  I did ink the edges and the folds on the top of the pinwheel to give it texture.  One of the pinwheels I punched the outer edge with a scallop punch prior to scoring it.  I had these really pretty gold saying stickers that I used on the card to complete it.

Now for the bow:

For the bow, I got the idea from Stampin’ UP!  but I also looked up examples on Pinterest, there was lots under paper bows.  The width of the strips was 1″ for each but when I make a paper bow again, I will make it thinner.

So to make the bow, you take each strip and make a loop with the paper and match up the ends.  (Punch a small hole on each of the strips on the end and simply match up the holes and apply glue.)  I used craft glue but I would use a hot glue gun next time because it would dry much faster.  With all the layers, I ended up letting it dry overnight.  Once you make all the loops, start layering.  On my bow- I glued the polka dot loops first and then added the brown outer layers.  I tried to do the layering, largest layer first and work inwards but ran out of space in the center for most of the loops.

I cut real thin strips of paper  3/8″ x 12″ for the paper that goes around the box.  I inked the edges and taped them to the box to help complete the gift.

I hope that you and yours have a very special Valentine’s Day!

Until next time……..Laura
