Laura here with a two page layout of our recent vacation to the Pacific Northwest. We had the pleasure of going to Canada for a few days so this layout is of the first day of the trip north. We traveled to Canada on the Clipper from Seattle to Victoria B.C., which is shown on the first page, and the second page is of Butchart Gardens, a well known historical landmark site, these are just a few of the photos from there. So- what I wanted to show you with this layout is how you can take themed paper and make it work on a layout that is totally not that theme/event. The papers are actually birthday papers from the Teresa Collins Celebrate collection. I decided that they would be perfect for these vacation photos. Most paper has a A side and a B side. A lot of times, the different company’s will use the theme of the collection on A side and do a neutral/accent type design on B side. I tend to use the B sides a lot!! I used black cardstock for the background papers which then made the printed cardstock and photos really stand out much more than if I had used white cardstock.
The embellishments are from different companies, but they all fit the theme and I even added a couple handmade maple leaves because we were on a trip to Canada. I like to add handmade touches to my layouts when I can. To make the leaves, I found a free coloring page on line of the Canadian flag, I cut the maple leaf out and used it as a template. Worked great!
The black and white flourish strip is the very bottom of the 12 x 12 striped paper. It is the part of the paper that has the Teresa Collins logo on it. So… I cut the strip off, inked it and positioned the photos to hide the logo.
I was trying to figure out how to use the dictionary paper that was part of the celebrate collection so I decided to read the various definitions that were listed and was able to use the word wish because in the definition of it, it said “I wish to travel”. It totally fit the theme of the layout.
I was also able to cut out and use several of the stars that were from one of the papers in the collection as well. The black and red plaid trendy tape was perfect for this layout, it was the first time that I’ve used this product and found it to be really easy and added a fun touch to the page. The Asian words are clear so I backed them with white cs and red cs. I inked the edges on everything, even the maple leaves and added some bling to various embellishments as well as some pop dots to add texture and dimension.
I hope that you enjoyed this layout and post. I sure had a fun time making and watching it evolve! I already started my next layout and am excited to show you all it in a couple of weeks. Until then, I hope to see you all at Scrapping Frenzy!
